Iesu, Quadragenariæ

  1. Jesus, you commanded a fast
for the health of the mind
    hallowing [by example a season]
    of abstaining for forty days,

  2. Now accompany the Church,
    accompany this abstinence,
    which we, bowed down, implore
    might wash away our sins.

  3. Grant by your grace
    to remit past sins
and from those that might yet come
    mildly apply your protection,

  4. So that, we who make amends
    with annual works of sorrow,
    might worthily direct our course
    cultivating Easter joys.

  5. O clement Trinity,
    may everything adore you,
and let we who are renewed through grace
    sing a new song. Amen.
