  1. Nox atra iam depéllitur,
    mundi nitor renáscitur,
    novúsque iam mentis vigor
    dulces in actus érigit.

  2. Laudes sonáre iam tuas
    dies relátus ádmonet,
    vultúsque cæli blándior
    nostra serénat péctora.

  3. Vitémus omne lúbricum,
    declínet prava spíritus,
    vitam facta non ínquinent,
    linguam culpa non ímplicet;

  4. Sed, sol diem dum cónficit,
    fides profúnda férveat,
    spes ad promíssa próvocet,
    Christo coniúngat cáritas.

  5. Præsta, Pater piíssime,
    Patríque compar Unice,
    cum Spíritu Paráclito
    regnans per omne sǽculum. Amen.
  1. The black night is scattered,
    the world’s lustre is reborn,
    and now a new vigor of mind
    arouses us to pleasing deeds.

  2. May day’s renewal now remind us
    to sound your praises,
    and may a whiter face of the sky
    calm our breasts.

  3. Help us avoid each deceit,
    may our spirit turn away from wickedness,
    may our deeds not pollute our life,
    let no fault implicate our tongue;

  4. But while the sun brings forth the day,
    let our faith swell with profound fervor,
    let our hope call us to the promises,
    let our charity join us to Christ.

  5. Grant this, most blessed Father,
    and Sole-Begotten, equal to the Father,
    with the Spirit Paraclete
    reigning through every age. Amen.
